Stanislaus Artist Open Studio Tour weekend is April 23 and 24, 2016. 75 artists participating in studios in various locations in Stanislaus County, primarily in Modesto, Turlock and Oakdale. Entry to the event is via purchase of a $10 map booklet, with students 18 and under in FREE with a map holder. The Tour offers an opportunity to meet local and regional artists in their studios where they create their work, purchase original art, view portfolios and art demonstrations by the participating artists. Tour will also include the Mistlin Gallery in Modesto, Carnegie Arts Center and CSU Stanislaus Main Street Gallery in Turlock. Hours are 10 to 6 pm, Saturday April 23, and noon to 5 pm Sunday April 24. A preview showing is planned at the Gallo Performing Arts Center, schedule to be confirmed.

Jim Christiansen was invited to exhibit Carnival Themed paintings at The Degas Gallery, 604 Julia Street, Suite 101, New Orleans. Part of a group show, Christiansen submitted acrylics "Live Jazz Revisited", "Live Jam" and "Flambeaux Tradition". Show opened January 15, and hangs through Mardi Gras until February 17. Contacted originally regarding oil painting "Live Jazz" from Christiansen's Jazz Series, Jim created these three new paintings for this show, as the oil had already sold. The original series also includes "Jazz Squared," the only 20 x 20 and the thirteenth of the original 12 image 16 x 20 inch sized Jazz Series. Jim Christiansen, will be showing works new and old, and be on site for the Grand Opening of Gallery Red, on the Fourth of July in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gallery Red is located at the edge of the Las Vegas Art District at 1237 S. Main Street. This is a new gallery, and is the brain child of artist/proprietor Yvette LaForce.

The 2015 Stanislaus Artist Open Studio weekend, will take place April 25 and 26 in cities all over Stanislaus County. Maps will be available for the tour at $10, beginning March 1, 2015. Interested Artists wishing to register for Open Studio, the fee this year will be $75, that includes six maps and entry form, along with artist description and contact information published in the map program. Jim Christiansen had one of his images selected for the 2015 Parks Printing Calendar, as a result of winning a spot through judging of Parks' Summer art/photography contest. Image chosen is Street Rap, a multi media piece that started as yahoo 2 way doodle conversation with artist Diana Rocha, for a proposed hip hop album cover, that expanded by photoshop manipulation, digital image printing, then watercolored over, printed again, and after four printings, watercolor and reflective inks, and sharpie pen added for the final original.

Jim Christiansen is one of several artists now showing in the Tasting Room Gallery at Watts Winery in Lodi. Other artists include Ed Cesena, and Watts Winery artist in residence David Jon Foster who maintains a studio at the winery. On display for Jim Christiansen, are Delicato Vineyards award winner, "Love Sees the Street" and CCAA/Mistlin Gallery Spring Show award winner, "Genie Unbottled, Uncorked," and "All Lined Up" from the Mezzo series that debuted at Mezzo Enoteca restaurant, Stockton at their inaugural show, and "Woman on Beach with Umbrella". Artist Jim Christiansen's Jazz Squared oil painting is the back ground image for Jamie Dubberly and Orquesta Dharma's soon to be released CD, "La Clave Del Gumbo. Dubberly owns a number of Christiansen's Jazz Series, the original 12 done on 16 x 20 canvas as a return to oil painting, using various jazz themes, instruments, motifs. The 13th image, inspired by Jazz in the Studio, Dubberly's first interest for the cd cover, is Jazz Squared, a 20 inch by 20 inch painting Christiansen proposed using, as CD covers are squared. This is Orquesta Dharma's second album, the first being Road Warrior, that received outstanding reviews for Latin Jazz recording Jamie Dubberly is also an original member of Pacific Mambo Orchestra which won its first grammy nomination and Grammy Award for its only album, named Pacific Mambo Orchestra, in the Latin Jazz category in 2014.
